Winter Scooping Policy

The Poop Valet Year ‘Round Service To Clients…

When a client continues their service with us through the Winter months (either weekly or bi-weekly), we make every effort to get out each week (except for the week between Christmas and New Year’s when we are closed).  If we clean the yard and there’s not as much to find, we’ll inevitably find that much more the following week.

There tends to be numerous thaws each Winter, and when the grass is exposed again, we’ll do a full yard pick-up of anything that did get buried in that snow. That means we might get several bags full after a thaw, but you’re only charged your normal weekly (or bi-weekly) rate.  Same thing when Spring arrives and the snow is gone.  We’ll clean up all that might be left behind – at no additional charge – above that normal weekly (or bi-weekly) rate.  It’s a courtesy we extend for you staying on with us with regular service.

Note:  we walk a grid pattern of your yard through the snow, similar to how we walk your yard in normal seasons. We don’t rake or shovel the snow in the yard, but we have trained our technicians to look for tried & true patterns in the snow where the poop is often just under a small layer of the white stuff.  At times we may come across poop that is frozen to the grass or patio.  We make every attempt to chip it up, but if it looks like it may harm your grass (or deck), we’ll leave that until it thaws a bit.

Over the 2023/2024 Winter season, we only had to cancel a weekly service four days total due to weather.  Winters are certainly getting less harsh in Southwestern Ontario!

Some clients do decide to pause service for the Winter. Keep in mind that the first time out in the Spring you will likely incur a fairly large Spring cleanup fee (based on the amount of time it takes us) and we tend to book up fast as Spring approaches.

Snow and Inclement Weather Policy

In the event of hazardous weather or driving conditions that render yard cleaning unsafe or impossible, we will inform you promptly to reschedule your appointment.

Should snow accumulation exceed 3+ centimeters within 8-16 hours prior to your scheduled service, and it stays on the ground, rescheduling will likely be necessary. We will make every effort to get to your yard the next day or so after the snow, depending if we can get everybody rerouted and have technicians available to do double-duty days. If it’s not possible to get it rescheduled later in the week, we will need to postpone that visit until the next week.  The regular weekly fee will still apply for the cancelled week due to the anticipated increased workload (twice the poop accumulation, takes nearly twice as long after a skipped week) in the subsequent week.

If cancellation occurs due to staff illness or other unforeseen circumstances that we control, you will be exempt from payment for that week.

Yard Access

Clients are responsible for ensuring The Poop Valet staff can access the yard. If we arrive and we can’t get the gate open (blocked with snow or ice), the weekly (or bi-weekly) charge  will still incur due to the increased workload on the next visit, although the fee for the first such occurrence will be waived as a courtesy. Access through homes is not permitted by our staff; a garage or gate must be available.

Holiday Schedule

Services may be adjusted around major holidays. We are closed from Christmas Day to New Year’s Day, incurring the same fee for the subsequent service due to the increased workload the first week of January.  (if you and the dog is away, let us know and we’ll give you a credit for that week.  We pay for our technicians that week that we are closed as a holiday bonus during his or her Christmas week off.

Thanks for supporting our locally owned and operated small business!

Cheers,
